Town of Renfrew Preparing to Hand Ma-te-Way File Over to the OPP
(Renfrew, Ontario) – The Town of Renfrew is preparing to hand the Third Party review into the Ma-te-Way Expansion Project to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). After the findings of the Third Party Review were released on March 21st, 2024, Council directed the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to seek legal advice on potential recourse to address matters therein.
Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay says, “The Corporation of the Town of Renfrew is taking this matter seriously and looking at all options.”
Following the closed session meeting of Council on April 9th, 2024, Renfrew Town Council provided instructions to legal counsel on proceeding with a claim of fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of duty of good faith, etc., pertaining to the Ma-te-Way Third Party Review. Town Council has also directed the CAO to report back to Council and the public on April 23rd, 2024, regarding a preliminary action plan to address the findings of the Third Party Review and to extend the mandate of WSCS Consultants Inc. to finalize their review of the project including completion of their fraud investigation and detailed financial review.
Town Council has directed the Town Clerk to notify the Ontario Provincial Police of a pending complaint pertaining to the Ma-te-Way Third Party Review with instruction to WSCS Consultants Inc. to provide all materials to the OPP upon completion of the ongoing fraud investigation no later than June 30, 2024.
