Renfrew Addresses Findings from the Ma-te-Way Third Party Review
The Town of Renfrew is taking proactive measures to address challenges outlined in the third-party review of the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre Expansion Project. The Corporation remains committed to providing transparency on the project and addressing all recommendations outlined.
The Town of Renfrew has looked at expanding the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre for decades and undertook a study in 2012. The scope of the project changed several times before Buttcon was awarded the contract in June of 2021. In the summer of 2022, Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay was hired as the Corporation shifted away from the previous senior management model. In May of 2023, Council requested a third-party review of the project with interim findings presented in December. At the Special Council meetings on March 21st, 2024, Tammy Carruthers, and John Skorobohacz of WCSC Consulting Inc. presented the final interim findings of the Ma-te-Way expansion project.
Councillor Jason Legris chaired the meeting and notes, “We acknowledge the challenges this project has faced and remain committed to rebuilding trust with the community to ensure the Town of Renfrew continues to thrive for years to come.”
Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay says, “The Town accepts the findings in this report and staff will develop an action plan to address the series of recommendations as soon as possible.”
Council has directed the Chief Administrative Officer to seek legal advice pertaining to the findings of the third-party review and potential recourse to address matters therein, including the potential undertaking of a forensic audit.
