2021 Swinging Bridge Rehabilitation Project Overview

Town of Renfrew Swinging Bridge

Notice #1 - May 26, 2021 - Notice of Commencement of Design

On May 25, 2021, the Town of Renfrew Council passed By-Law No. 38-2021 authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to execute an agreement with WSP for the design and construction management of the rehabilitation of the swinging bridge.

WSP has a working familiarity with the swinging bridge as they have completed the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) inspections on the bridge, as well as completed interim repairs in the last two years. This rehabilitation project is intended to extend the life of this important landmark for another 25 years, while keeping within the character of the structure. The scope of the work will be finalized during the design and will be limited to project funding availability.

On August 25, 2020, Town Council awarded the Water Standpipe repairs to JDCMI to preform necessary repairs to the Town’s Water Tower. The scope of the project includes; repairs to the interior and exterior coatings, health and safety upgrades, and exterior logo to match Town branding.

The standpipe (Water Tower) provides emergency water storage for loss of supply, fire, fluctuations in demand and pressure equalization. The repairs required will help preserve this important asset and maintain safe operations.

The work is set to take place between May – June 2021. During this time, the water distribution system may experience variations in system pressure and potentially disturbance of sediment that could cause discolouration of water.  If discolouration of water is observed, residents should run the COLD water to drain until the water returns to a clear condition.

Construction Updates:

UPDATE: May 19, 2021 - Construction Update: The water tower maintenance repair project is on track and progressing well. The tank has been drained to allow for interior repair and coating work to be completed. Phase two of the project will incorporate the new logo installation, as well as some exterior coating repairs. The Town hopes to have the water tower back in service by the end of June.
