Construction and Infrastructure Projects

Renfrew Town Council has awarded the design work associated with the Reconstruction of Argyle/Lochiel Project to Jp2g Consultants Inc. This project is being completed with the assistance of the Federal and Provincial governments received through the ICIP Green Stream Intake 2 funding program. The primary purpose of the project is to improve drinking water quality and system reliability by replacing aging water distribution piping as supported by the Town’s Asset Management Plan. Associated work will also include upgrades to the road surface and sidewalk on the following streets:

  • Argyle St. N from O’Gorman Ave to Munroe Ave. W.
  • Argyle St. S from Munroe Ave. W to Opeongo Rd.
  • Lochiel St. N. from O’Gorman Ave to Barry Ave.
  • Lochiel St N from Munroe Ave W to Opeongo Rd.
  • Patrick Ave. W from Argyle St S to Lochiel St S.
  • Prince St. W from Argyle St S to Lochiel St S.
  • Opeongo Rd. from Argyle St S to Bonnechere St S. and
  • Hall Ave. from Plaunt St S to Barr St.

The Renfrew Town Council will be moving forward with the reconstruction of Joffre Avenue, Haig Avenue, and Dufferin Street. Construction will be RE-TENDERED in June/July 2022 

Construction is estimated to be completed Summer 2023 (*updated)

Scope of Work

  • Underground (spot repairs to sanitary sewer and storm sewer extension)
  • Road excavation & replacement of granular materials
  • New concrete, mountable curbs & asphalt, new sidewalk on Dufferin Street
  • Line painting at intersections, driveway tie-ins and lawn reinstatement

The Town of Renfrew has retained BT Engineering Inc. to undertake a Mater Transportation Plan (MTP) for the Town's infrastructure including roads, sidewalks, paths, trails and other active transportation facilities. The Study will define the current and long-term improvements required for transportation infrastructure and traffic management in the Town, to improve traffic operation and safety for all modes of transportation. 

Study Design Report (June 13, 2022): A draft Study Design Report has been prepared that describes the study background, approach, process, and consultation program.

Public Open House No. 1/Community Café: A Public Open House (POH)/Community Café event is being held to help define the study scope and issues. The goal of the POH/Community Café event is to engage the public/stakeholders on their perspectives and interests in the Study.

The Renfrew Town Council has awarded the reconstruction of O’Brien Road (Highway 60) project to Bonnechere Excavating Inc. (BEI). This project is part of a multi-year Connecting Link Rehabilitation program that the Town has been undertaking on the portions of Highway 60 and Highway 132 that are within the Town's Limits. The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will be contributing up to $3,000,000 in funding for this portion of the project.

Renfrew Town Council has awarded the rehabilitation of Raglan Street South (County Road 52) and Airth Boulevard West to Cavanagh Construction Ltd. Construction will take place during the Fall of 2020 and Spring/Summer of 2021. The project scope includes Raglan Street South from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Graham Avenue, and Airth Boulevard West from Coleraine Drive to Raglan Street south. Work will include the installation of a watermain crossing Raglan Street South, road rehabilitation of both Raglan Street South and Airth Boulevard West, minor storm sewer improvements on Airth Boulevard and the construction of a new asphalt multi-use pathway on the west side of Raglan Street and north side of Airth Boulevard.

Fall 2020 construction activities will include the installation of a watermain crossing Raglan Street in the vicinity of 400 Raglan Street South. The work was started in early October and was complete by early November. The 2021 work is scheduled to commence spring 2021 and be completed by early fall, subject to delays due to weather or other unexpected issues. There will be intermittent traffic delays as work is progressing.

Renfrew Town Council has awarded the Stewart Street (Highway 60) Reconstruction project to Thomas Cavanagh Construction Ltd. (Cavanagh). The area of work covered in the reconstruction is from Town limit 1.1 KM easterly to the bridge crossing the Bonnechere River. Scope of work includes; paving and grading, concrete curb and sidewalks, sanitary sewer installation and relining, storm sewer works, water works, landscaping and streetscaping, traffic signal upgrades, site restoration, and line painting. 

Underground water and sewer work will commence in Fall 2020, with the balance of the work being completed in 2021.
