The Town of Renfrew is mourning the loss of a long-time volunteer, resident, and former Director at Renfrew Hydro. On Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, Charles Mervyn “Merv” Beckstead passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his 84th year.

“On behalf of Council and staff with the Town of Renfrew, I want to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Merv Beckstead,” says Mayor Tom Sidney. “I also want to recognize Merv’s contributions as a former Director at Renfrew Hydro Inc. and for his work on the various committees of Council. Merv was a strong community supporter and will be missed by many.”

The funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, who indicates a Celebration of Life will take place after the family has time to deal with this tremendous loss. The family would be grateful for donations in memory of Merv to Hospice Renfrew or the Perley-Rideau Veterans Health Centre.

As per the Town of Renfrew Corporate Flag Policy, flags flown at Town Hall and other municipal buildings, will be lowered this week to half-mast position.
