If you don't want to come in and see us in person, you may email or scan a copy of your ID to and include your name and a phone number where we can reach you. Once we receive your information, we can make you a card that may be used immediately! Non-residents can simply e-transfer the membership fee.

Want to join RPL?

Anyone who lives, attends school, owns property, or runs a business in the Town of Renfrew, Horton Township, in a First Nations community in Ontario can get a free library card.

To join simply:

  1. Show identification with your current address and a photo.
  2. If you do not have anything with your current address, then a photo ID and a bill or piece of mail showing your address will also work.
  3. Please note: students who go to school in Renfrew, but who do not reside in the municipality must present a student ID card or a letter from the school in order to obtain a card.

Can I join if I do not fall into any of the above categories? YES!

Non-Resident memberships are available for a non-refundable fee. Payment of the household fee entitles each member of the non-resident household to a library card. Non-resident memberships can be purchased for a 6-month or 12-month period. Memberships costs $55.00 per household for 12 months or $28 per household for 6 months. This entitles you to one library card per household. Other options may be available upon request.

What if I teach at a Renfrew school, but don't live in the area?

Teachers who are teaching in a Renfrew school may apply or a teacher’s card which is valid from September 1 – June 30 and must be renewed at the beginning of each school year. Teacher cards are only eligible to sign out items to be used in the classroom; therefore, Museum Passes and equipment are not able to be signed out using this card.

What if I am currently experiencing homelessness?

You can still get a membership if you are unable to provide identification or verify address. In this case, borrowing is limited to two items at a time, and does not include special collections, such as equipment.

What about children?

Children under the age of 13 must register for membership accompanied by a parent or guardian who presents identification with name and address, and signs for responsibility for fines, damages or lost items.

What if I had fines years ago that were not taken care of?

Don't worry! We will see what we can do to start you off on a clean slate...just come in, call or chat with us on social media or via email.
