Position Description:
Reporting to the Director, the Specialist, Recreation Operations plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Town’s recreational facilities and services. This position oversees the day-to-day management and coordination of the myFM Centre and Ma-te-Way Park, sports fields, and playgrounds, ensuring they are safe, efficiently operated and accessible to the community.
Competency Profile:
-
Degree or diploma in recreation, leisure services, sports management, facility management, or related discipline
-
At least two (2) years relevant municipal recreation operational experience
-
Completion, or willingness to obtain Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) and Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) training and accreditation.

Playground Inspection Certification desirable.

Municipal recreation experience required, including programs and facilities

Supervisory experience required, including a unionized environment

Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment, including booking software

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to interact effectively and courteously with team members, partner organizations, volunteers and the public

Self-directed with demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment

Highly development organizational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cope with competing demands and multiple tasks

Valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license and First Aid/CPR
Position Responsibilities:
-
Ensure the safe and efficient operation at the Town of Renfrew’s recreation facilities, sportsfields and playgrounds.
-
Oversee recreation services, including ice operations, sportsfields maintenance, and playground inspections.
-
Supervise and schedule Lead Hands, Recreation Operators, Custodians, and students.
-
Interact and liaise with user groups and other staff members.
-
Collaborate with the Recreation Fundraising Committee, tracking bar inventory and sales.
-
Assist with event logistics and support program and customer service staff.
-
Aid the Director in reporting for Committee and Council consideration, as well as budget preparation and monitoring.
-
Provide effective customer service, handle confidential information with discretion, and resolve conflicts collaboratively.
-
Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures.
-
Monitor divisional performance against plans and initiate corrective action as necessary.
-
Assist with the implementation of master plans for Parks & Recreation and Arts, Heritage & Culture.
-
Collaborate with the Booking Coordinator and Communications & Engagement Coordinator to market recreation facilities and increase revenue and participation.
-
Contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the division’s operations by continuously reviewing and implementing best practices.

Perform various administrative functions and undertake special projects as required.

Perform all responsibilities within the standards set out in applicable legislation and operational policies.
*35-hours/per week. Work is conducted in an office environment. Travelling off-site and as needed for meetings, conferences, workshops, programs, and events. May be required to work outside of regular business/office hours.

The Town of Renfrew invites applications for the position of Records Management Student to assist in the organization’s record management, retention, and accessibility compliance initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Office of the CAO, including updating the corporate multi-year accessibility plan, projecting future needs, and identifying recommendations to ensure that the corporation is proactive in advocacy.
- Provide on-going clerical support to ensure all administrative requirements of the Office of the CAO are met in a timely manner; this will include data entry, filing and creation of various spreadsheets.
- Assist in the implementation of disability related initiatives and the joint multi-year accessibility plan.
- Assist in the implementation of records retention and related initiatives.
- Review legislation regarding accessibility and records retention and report back to the Office of the CAO as appropriate.
- Identify accessibility issues, needs, resources, and opportunities for integrated accessibility planning across the corporation. Undertake research, analysis and gather information about legislation, technology advancements, best practices and community needs and trends as required.
- Assist in the development and update of accessibility policies as required by legislation.
- Strong technical skills to create and edit accessible documents under the Microsoft Office Suite as well as the Adobe PDF platform.
- Assist with internal and external stakeholders and local municipal partners in the development, design, and maintenance of an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy, including associated policy, procedure and training implementation.
- Perform other job related tasks as directed.
Qualifications:
- Understanding of Records retention policies, TOMRMS knowledge an asset;
- Expertise with Microsoft Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat;
- Proven ability to provide accurate data entry and concise excel data into a meaningful recommendation for the report;
- Experience in creating accessible documents;
- Ability to work constructively within a team to meet time-sensitive milestones;
- Experience dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information;
- The ability to manage multiple tasks;
- Excellent organizational and communication skills both written and verbal;
- Asset - understanding of accessibility compliance requirements and interest in accessibility advocacy;

Position Description:
The Renfrew Public Library is now accepting applications for a Summer Reading Club Coordinator. Reporting to the Children’s Co-ordinator, the Summer Reading Club Coordinator plans, promotes and delivers the Library’s annual TD Summer Reading Club. This year’s theme is “To the Stars!”.
The successful candidate will work up to 30 hours per week at a rate of $17.00 per hour. This position will be temporary in nature, and run from early May to late August. The successful candidate will plan, prepare, implement, promote and market a variety of creative, imaginative, engaging programs for children ages 2-13. This includes contacting schools and community groups to promote programs, designing ways to engage children online, in-library and out in the community. The successful candidate will also be required to learn basic library procedures as needed.

Qualifications
? Be a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the spring 2024 semester and be returning to full-time studies in the fall of 2024
? Art/crafts, drama or storytelling skills
? Comfortable using online tools for delivery and promotion of services (i.e. Facebook, Zoom, Canva, Instagram, etc.)
? Previous experience working with children and the public considered an asset
? A love of reading and understanding of public libraries

Position Description:
The Town of Renfrew invites applications for the position of Household Hazardous Waste Attendant – Summer Term to operate the Household Hazardous Waste Program at the Renfrew Landfill. The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, sorting, packaging, and tracking household hazardous waste (e.g. automotive fluids, paint, cleaning products, aerosols, light bulbs, batteries, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.) for shipment. They will also assist landfill users by directing them to the appropriate disposal locations and help landfill staff with basic maintenance activities (e.g. littler pick up, grass cutting, cleaning).
The employment term for this position will be from May 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024.The availability of this position is subject to funding approval by Town Council.
Qualifications:
- Must be available between May 1 – August 31, 2024
- Ability to perform physical work including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Able to effectively communicate with coworkers and ratepayers. Experience in a customer service role considered an asset.
- Be a team player as well as be able to work independently.
- Understanding of basic chemistry (e.g. pH scale) or experience in Household Hazardous Waste collection or Training in WHIMS, chemical handling/labeling or Transportation of Dangerous Goods will be considered an asset.
- Pursuing or a recent of graduate of post-secondary education in chemistry, environmental science, or technical program considered an asset.
Rate of Pay/Hours of Work:
- $17.00/Hour
- 33 Hours a week based on the Landfill hours of Operation: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Thursday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.. Landfill hours are subject to change however Hours of work will remain at 33 hours per week.
